Edward is the one person in Anita's life that understands her and her job better than anyone else, and vice-versa. Several times in the books the two meet up and decide to go after some baddies together. Edward tends to look at Anita at times with a hint of pride on his face, and Anita admits every once in a while that she has learned a bit of who she by her relationship with Edward. Several times throughout the series, Edward supplies Anita with an ample supply of guns and ammo, even teaching her how to load and use the weapons. He is constantly giving advice (if you would call it advice) concerning her feelings about what she does. Anita considers her and Edward to be friends, despite the fact that she thinks he's cold and psychotic at times. As the books go on, she starts to realize she can be nearly (if not exactly) as ruthless and deadly as he is.
The two have several conversations with each other in which Anita recognizes that she has more and more
in common with Edward. One such conversation occurs in The Killing Dance when the two are having a dicussion with Richard, Anita's on and off werewolf boyfriend. Richard seems a bit alarmed that Edward and Anita enjoy their work. Richard defiantly claims that Anita is not like Edward, to which Edward replies that Anita's closer to being like him than she used to be. Edward also remarks that if he and Anita didn't enjoy their work, they would be doing something else. Many times throughout the books, Anita questions just how similiar she is to Edward, and in Obsidian Butterfly she realizes the two of them are very much alike. She also finally seems to believe that they really are friends, and she knows Edward feels the same way. Edward even tells her in OB that he'll be there for her if she needs help.
The real twist, and perhaps the most surprising thing to happen in the two's relationship, is when Edward reveals that he believes him and Anita are soulmates. For more info about the soulmate issue, go here.
