Donna is not Edward's fiancee; she is Ted's, Edward's alias. Anita is more than shocked when she finds out about Death's engagement in Obsidian Butterfly, and quickly thereafter she is so angry at Edward for getting involved in Donna's life that she considers killing him because of it. She thinks Edward is completely out of his mind for drawing a widow and her two children into his life, whether he is doing it as Edward or Ted.

Does Edward, or Ted, or whoever he is, love Donna? Anita believes by the end of the book that he does, but Edward (or Ted) never admits it. He does admit that he cares for Donna, but he doesn't seem to consider it true love. That, or maybe he doesn't believe he can love her? Anita wonders if deep down Edward wants the ideal family life. He does admit that something about Donna appeals to a part of him that he didn't know he had. He also says that it took him a long time to figure out what it was that he saw in Donna. Knowing what we do about Edward, this could mean anything, but it's hard to tell exactly at this point in the series.

Edward also tells Anita that he didn't mean for Donna to get involved with him. It just happened, and "Ted" is just trying to go along with things like any normal man would. Ted and Donna fell in love, they have been together for two years, so it is only natural for them to get married. Is this the actor in him, or is it the real feelings of the real Edward?
