There is no doubt that Edward cares for Donna's kids, Peter and Becca. In the beginning of Obsidian Butterfly, Anita can't determine Edward's feelings for the kids. However, when the two children get kidnapped and horrifically tortured, Edward gets scared and is determined to save them. He obviously feels responsible for the two, and he nearly gets killed when saving their lives.

Becca is precious and innocent, and perhaps Edward feels some guilt for getting involved in her life. She obviously likes Edward, and at times she brings out a little softness to him. This freaks Anita out, seeing such an innocent little kid adore Edward so much.

Peter is another story. He doesn't like Edward that much, but Edward seems to regard Peter as more of a man than a child. It was Peter who shot the lycanthrope that killed his father (he did it in defense), and later on he kills Amanda, the woman who molests him when him and his sister are kidnapped. Anita is alarmed by Peter when he does this because he reminds of her of Edward: a cold, ruthless killer. Peter even demands to see the gruesome photos of the crime scenes Anita and Edward are working on, and Edward allows him. He thinks Peter is a big boy, and that Peter needs to learn to handle it. Some might wonder if Edward wants Peter to grow up and be just like himself, but some would no doubt disagree. The world in these books is not a pretty one; Edward very well might want Peter to be ready for whatever may happen.

When the kids are rescued, the tension between Edward and Peter fades. Peter gets emotional when seeing his sister's injuries, and Edward holds out a hand to him. The two embrace, and Edward assures Peter that Becca will be fine. Later on, when Edward gets a stake driven into him, Peter becomes white with shock and apologizes to him.
