Sometimes, not even Death can finish the job on his own. That's when he calls for backup, and
when Edward calls for backup, you better run for the hills.
Harley's role in the series is short and brief.
Edward calls for him during The Killing Dance to help him protect Anita from getting assasinated. Although Anita is terrified of Harold in the
beginning, he tells her shortly after their meeting that she's "the scariest motherfucker in the room." Harley doesn't
say too much unless he's asked, and Edward sees him as a realiable man who will be at his back. Later on, Harley freaks
out when he can't find Edward during a nasty fight with some monsters. Anita, seeing how crazy Harley starts acting, ends up shooting him, thus killing him. Edward, who seems speculative yet
almost impassive at this, tells Anita that she owes him a life. He calls her in on this favor later on in Obsidian Butterfly.
Bernardo Spotted-Horse comes into play in OB. He is about six feet tall, Caucasion/Native American, and a pure knockout.
He's tall and lean with incredible black hair that falls to his waist. He reminds Anita of Richard, and although she's
attracted to Bernerdo (and vice-versa), she doesn't allow herself to be intimate with him, even when Edward advises it. Out of the
rest of the guys, Bernardo is by far the most humerous and loose.
Edward and Bernardo have known each other for six years, and they've
worked together before. Edward pretty much is the boss, and he orders Bernardo around quite a bit. He even tells the guy to shut up
every now and the. Although Bernardo mumbles and grumbles about this a few times, it's appears that he respects (or perhaps fears?) Edward a great deal.
Olaf is, according to Anita, the tallest person she's ever met. He's over six foot eight! He's a pale, "well-oiled machine" with dark brown eyes, a bald head, and a beard (he changes it a bit from time to time).
This impressive and frightening man is a native of Hapsburg (Germany), and for the most part he's a psychotic asshole. He has a very, very sick idea of fun and pleasure. The idea of blood, mutilation and torture appeals
to him very much.
So why the heck does Edward recruit this guy? According to Edward, it's because Olaf is an expert when it comes to criminal stuff (such as murder). Olaf was actually commited of rape, and he develops a very
hateful yet fascinating interest for Anita. Olaf and Edward actually get into several verbal confrontations concerning Anita. Edward puts more trust and confidence into Anita than anyone else, and this upsets Olaf greatly. He doesn't understand how
Anita, a woman, could be better than him. The tension between Olaf and Edward is usually tense, and at times it looks like the two are ready to kill each other. However, for some reason, Olaf continues to follow Edward's orders. Olaf, as badass as he acts, seems to know just how dangerous Edward is, so
it could be fear that keeps him from doing whatever he wants. Edward even makes sure to let Olaf know that if Olaf touches either Donna or Anita, he'll be killed.
Although Olaf and Anita manage not to rip each other throats out, they get pretty close to doing so, and it gets so bad that at one point Edward offers to shoot Olaf if Anita wishes. Towards the end
of the book, Olaf actually saves Anita's life, but leaves her a very disturbing and cryptic letter in which he reveals that he has a sort of crush on her. Later on, when Anita visits Edward in the hosptial, Edward warns her not to take any chances with Olaf, and to just shoot the monster if she gets the chance.
